San Francisco is unlikely to have a Mamdani or an AOC, because the voting base is both too anti-Black, and doesn't have enough Black people in it. So I think if a Mamdani did show up, SF would reject them. The person would look like a Matt Haney + a Chesa Boudin. They would reduce crime, make a bunch of quality of life improvements, help small businesses... and then get recalled because they weren't mean enough to Black people or homeless people. 🤷🏿‍♂️ Mamdani and AOC are successful because they found a way to be progressive without also being anti-Black like typical US progressives like Bernie Bros. But SF's voter base is mostly composed of old conservatives (anti-Black) super progressives that don't talk to or listen to Black people enough (anti-Black) and millionaire and billionaire tech folk that think that libertarianism is a real way to run a government (anti-Black). There is no longer any wealthy Black neighbourhood in SF. This weird "progressive" voter base, leads to self-destructive attacks on anything that looks remotely like a Mamdani. Because many of those benefits are felt disproportionately by Black people. SF would have rejected many of Mamdani's improvements, and has done so in recent years.

Example 1: SF had Chess Boudin, who drove crime down in the same way as Mamdani. They recalled him.🤦🏿‍♂️ Because SF voters that think they are too smart for Fox News, believed all the same easily debunkable lies about Black people. https://hachyderm.io/@mekkaokereke/109532598142714144 Example 2: SF is too cruel to take care of its homeless population as well as NYC does. NYC has more homeless people than SF, both in absolute numbers and per capita. But the difference in the cruelty is visible. https://hachyderm.io/@mekkaokereke/111363645802219678 Example 3: SF doesn't celebrate politicians that just relentlessly make quality of life improvements like Mamdani. When Matt Haney noticeably reduced the number of human turds on the street, it wasn't heralded as a major win. https://hachyderm.io/@mekkaokereke/109956455505195549 Example 4: SF people with degrees in Applied Math from places like MIT and CalTech, and job titles like Data Scientist, still believed the laughably impossible math that Black people could shoplift Fortune 500 companies out of business during the Covid lockdowns.🤦🏿‍♂️ NYC people with the same degrees in Applied Math from MIT and CalTech and job titles like Quant, or Trader, did not believe those laughably bad lies. Because they can read a P&L and an earnings report. So SF was more primed for government cruelty against starving Black people than NYC was. https://hachyderm.io/@mekkaokereke/109643307529579166
