@matt@toot.cafe Yeah, I have some theories but it's hard to say for sure without knowing more about what's running on the device. I think the reality is that fewer and fewer people are buying these things, and more and more of these devices are being bought by government agencies and given to people who can't or won't learn to use smartphones and computers. Humanware has no incentive to ship anything beyond the minimum viable product, and they probably have some unified platform they're using for all their devices now, to facilitate online book downloads, TTS, book rendering, etc. It would be extremely easy for them to render menu prompts ahead of time or even cache them, and that would dramatically speed up navigation across the entire device. But they don't, and that tells us a lot about how little they care about the UX. They flatly refuse to tell the public something as simple as the name of the OS running on the new Stream, which is bizarre and offputting. If I go into the service menu and export logs, they're in a password-protected zip file. probably crackable, but I just can't be bothered. I think their promptness in fixing the bugs in the Evolve software will tell us a lot about their intended audience going forward.
