Picked up a cheap minolta autocord. I LOVE these cameras (this is my 3rd 🤦). They are small, light, easy to repair, and have an exceptional lens.
This one is in crazy good condition, maybe the nicest I’ve seen. But the focus was jammed.
It’s not unusual for these to suffer from old grease that’s turned to concrete seizing up the focusing mechanism.
The helicoids aren’t hard to get to, but it does involve removing a lot of parts so it gives us an opportunity to tour the camera a little.
So here we can see lifting off the front panel, which protects the shutter and communicates the aperture and shutter speed settings to some convenient windows at the top of the plate.
Below the plate we can see the shutter and a collection of rotating plates that communicate between the winding mech on the right side of the camera and the shutter.
The crank on the right rotates a ring that charges the shutter. Another ring communicates rotates when the shutter trigger releases and unlocks the next winding.
