Whatever went on around the permitter of RAF Farirford it has spooked the USAF, who this weekend 'moved' their heavy B-1 Lancer bombers elsewhere.... Depending on your perspective this could be a panic response to a miss-reported criminal incident, an accusation the UK cannot provide security for airfields, or a bit of political theatre designed to hide something else (although what might be being hidden is not clear). #RAFFairford #politics #security https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ck87z09xe82qo

@ChrisMayLA6@mastodon.me.uk Frank Gardner’s a ‘security correspondent’. Maybe he should be aware that USAF temporary deployments don’t exceed 180 days (he mentions 7mths, it’s been 6). U-2S ops at Fairford be a detachment from Beale AFB, they haven’t left (different ‘rules’ deployment vs detachment). No reported force changes at Lakenheath or Mildenhall, lights still on at Feltwell. This idea that there was a specific risk, let alone spookage, doesn’t hold water. The pumpkin prince needs to keep things quiet over the coming weeks, bigly elections, no rocking of boats lest his popularity with his base tanks further. Adding, I believe the USAF now has other forward deployment options, notably Diego Garcia where recent accomodation ‘issues’ have been overcome - it’s much closer to the Gulf regions for air operations.
